How to purchase a firearm in CA:

1) Obtain a Firearm Safety Certificate card (FSC) by taking the CA mandated 30-question multiple choice test. You can study for the test using the FSC Study Guide.

Once you are ready, you may come into the shop any time we are open to take the test (please leave about 30-minutes for the whole process) , with no appointment required. The test/certificate will cost $25.

2) Determine which firearm you want to purchase. The associates at Reed’s will help you narrow the choices down by determining your intended use, required features, budget, and what feels best to you.

3) Complete all required CA and Federal background check paperwork. Reed’s associates will work with you to ensure that all required paperwork is completed correctly, and submitted to the appropriate agencies.

4) Wait 10-days prior to picking up the firearm per CA law. Once the 10-day wait has passed, you may take possession of your firearm.

5) Take a hands-on firearm safety training class. This is NOT required by law, but is a REALLY GOOD idea. This can be done in between any of the above steps. Reed’s has classes available for all levels of experience.
